Who Has the Best Donuts on the East Coast?
If you love donuts, then you need to head to Portland, Maine. In our humble opinion, the best donuts on the east coast are made here, at a place called "The Holy Donut". These donuts are made out of potatoes, and are the best we have ever had. If you journey into Maine includes Bar Harbor you need to work Portland in as a stop to try these donuts for yourself. The store closes at 5pm, so plan accordingly, and the locals told us to get there as early as possible to be able to sample all varieties.

Tip:
Arrive as close to opening time as possible as they only make the donuts once per day. The earlier you get there the best the donuts will taste and the better selection you will have, as the locals say they sell out of certain flavors before noon. I would recommend get the bakers dozen and taking them to the "Portland Head Light" park to eat and enjoy seaside as seen in the picture and video above. Once you have consumed your donuts, you can then walk some of those calories and carbs off via the seaside trails in the park.
